It's Been A Year!

It was around 3am on February 18, 2012. I was snuggled on the couch with my then two-month-old Nicholas, trying to keep myself awake. While I typically spent these early morning feedings thinking about sleep, out of nowhere a phrase popped into my head: "pint-sized mama." I jotted it down so that I could remember it in the morning. And then I probably went back to thinking about sleep.

The next day, February 19, the first "Life of a Pint-Sized Mama" blog post was published. (An ode to the disturbingly giant belly that I possessed when I was pregnant with Nicholas.) My blogging journey began, and little did I know what a life-changing journey it would be.

"Oh, that picture is SO going on my blog!"
This phrase represents just some of the many things my husband and son have had to put up with this past year.

When I first started, I had no idea that this blog would...

- Be a means to create genuine friendships.

- Remind me of passions, dreams, and spiritual gifts that I thought I no longer possessed.

- Help me to find a mentor! (I'll share more about this in the future.)

- Challenge me to pursue motherhood with purpose, and humility, and dependence on God.

- Reveal to me how much I seek approval from others, and challenge me to live the story God wrote for me, and not for someone else.

- Show me that social media can be used to change lives and change the world.

- Help me learn to trust God after experiencing disappointment, and to dive straight into the crazy depths of His grace.

- Allow me to encourage other women in their faith and in their mothering.

- Make me laugh at myself as I embraced the tiny, awkward, and spit-fire kinda woman that I am.

- Be an acceptable place to share my cooking mishaps, and the progress I've made along the way.

- Introduce me to a whole bunch of ladies who love the Lord and the people around them, and who want to use social media to glorify and serve God.

- Create a space to help me cherish and enjoy my family.

And lots more.

I'm excited for what this next season of blogging, and of life, will hold. Whatever God does with this pint-sized space on the internet, I hope it glorifies Him. I hope that it encourages women to trust God, embrace who He has made them to be, and to enjoy the abundant life that is found in Jesus. I hope it is always an overflow of the good and hard stuff that God is doing in my "offline" life.

And to any other pint-sized ladies out there - you've got a sister who understands. No, I'm not 13 - I'm a 25-year-old married mama. Yes, my son is mine, I'm not his teenage baby-sitter. Yes, kid's clothes are much cheaper, and I will gloat about that for the rest of my life. Yes, Jesus made me this way and I LOVE it.

Also, I am so grateful for:

My readers -
Thank you for reading these words over the last 12 months. Thank you for your incredible support, your genuine friendship, and for the ways that you inspire me. Thank you for putting up with my awkward jokes and the millions of pictures of Nicholas :)

 My husband -
Brian, you have read many blog posts before I published them, taken too many photos, been my biggest "advertiser" and my best cheerleader. You excitedly took care of Nicholas for 4 days while I attended a blogging conference, and practically pushed me out the door so that I could have an adventure. You see what God sees in me, especially when I don't, and I am so grateful for you.

Nicholas -
Thank you for making me a pint-sized mama. You are my joy. (And I've taken so many pictures of you "for the blog" that you learned a perfect pose at like 6 months old. What have I done.)

My sis -
I love you. Thank you for loving Jesus and your community so well. Thank you for challenging me as I write, and for cheering me on. You da best. Here's to the future :)

My Mom -
Thanks for texting me with major spelling mistakes and for always "Liking" my blog updates on Facebook. You are a mama, through and through - which means you are my biggest supporter.
