(No Sugar) Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

One thing to know about me: I love chocolate. Anything and everything chocolate. Each day I try to hold out as long as I can before giving in, but daily I indulge in some sort of chocolate. And I usually feel a little bit sheepish about it, until I concocted this. 


Chocolate with breakfast? Check. Protein and no sugar? Check. Deliciousness? Check check.

What's better than chocolate + peanut butter + banana? I have that answer: chocolate + peanut butter + banana, without any sugar. I love drinking this smoothie for breakfast, as it is actually pretty filling. (And the idea of getting to have chocolate upon waking up in the morning helps me to get out of bed on my lazy days). Here's the recipe! 


-Makes one smoothie

- 1 banana, peeled and sliced into small pieces
- 1/4 to 1/3 cup plain* greek yogurt (depending on how thick you want the smoothie)
- 2 TBSP unsweetened cocoa powder (I like mine chocolatey!)
- One heaping spoonful of creamy no-added sugar peanut butter (like Adams)
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any other type of milk) (depending on how thick you want the smoothie)
- A small splash of vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup ice
- For added nutrients & protein, add
    - One scoop plain whey protein powder
    - A good handful of baby spinach
      (Just a handful will blend in and won't change the flavor but will kick up the nutrients!)

*vanilla greek yogurt will also do, but that adds sugar to this recipe. If you use vanilla yogurt, don't use any vanilla extract.

These ingredients are somewhat approximate, and can be changed based on your taste preference. If you like a less tangy smoothie, don't use as much yogurt.

Place all of these ingredients into a blender and blend! And then get hooked and drink it every day, like me.

  2. Mackenzie, I tried this recipe and it was delicious! My husband LOVED it! He says it tastes like the Peanut Butter Mood Shake from Jamba Juice! Although my wasn't a very healthy version (because my stuff had more sugar) it was still a good healthy snack!
