No thank you, I do not need a kid's menu

I dread moments like yesterday. Nicholas and I went to lunch with 2 of my girlfriends at a cute little Italian place. My friend kindly offered to carry in Nicholas's carseat for me and we sat down at a booth. Our server came to the table, put a few menus down, and then placed a kid's menu on the table "just in case," as he looked at me.

My girlfriends stared at me in shock. What, you've never been offered a kid's menu before? I shrugged my shoulders because that wasn't the first time I've been offered a kid's menu at a restaurant, and it probably won't be the last. Besides, you gotta laugh at yourself sometimes! I'm sure the server thought that Nicholas was my friend's child because I don't look near old enough to be a mom. I'd rather let them think I'm younger than I am and not make them feel bad for pointing out my lack of height. Luckily the food was tasty and my self-esteem wasn't too badly bruised.

This was Nicholas's shocked face when the server asked me if I wanted a kid's menu. Not really, but doesn't he just look so darn cute? We just came back from his 4 month appointment at the doctor. He is a little over 15 pounds and just over 24 inches! He got a few shots but he was a trooper. We'll see how the day goes, he and I both need a nap!

  1. I would have loved to see the server's face if he came back again and you were nursing Nicholas. I was reminded of you today as I saw a pregnant woman and to me she didn't appear more than 14. I quickly stopped the thoughts that wanted to surface and reminded myself not to think anything because I didn't know any details about her.

  2. Ellen, I'm so glad that my experience has been a good reminder to think twice - I know I have to give other people the benefit of the doubt too! And actually, I did nurse Nicholas in the restaurant a little while later. I think he was so shocked that he didn't say anything :)

Every comment means a lot to me, so feel free to say hello. Thank you!
